How can women and families afford the new health plans?
Already, the cost of health insurance has been lowered by the competition created in the new marketplaces. But the “sticker prices” of the new health plans still may be high for people on limited budgets. That’s why the Affordable Care Act provides help for uninsured people looking to get covered through the new health insurance marketplaces:
• Very low-income people will be eligible for expanded Medicaid in some states. The Affordable Care Act gives states the opportunity to expand their Medicaid programs to cover more uninsured people. As of September, 29 states had chosen to do this, or were moving toward Medicaid expansion. GEORGIA IS ONE OF THEM, NOT EXPANDING MEDICAID. If you live in one of those states, you can apply for this free or very low-cost insurance through the health marketplace. If your state hasn’t expanded Medicaid, help us change that! Let your local legislature know!!!
